The history of neutrinos
October 31, 2024A couple of people involved in the history of neutrinos received a Nobel Prize. These scientists are:
- J. Chadwick - Nobel Prize in Physics (1935)
Chadwick was awarded the prize for his discovery of the neutron in 1932, and not for his research on beta decays. - F. Reines - Nobel Prize in Physics (1995)
Reines received the Nobel Prize for the first detection of the electron neutrino, which he conducted with C. Cowan in 1956. Cowan, unfortunately, had passed away by the time of the award, and Nobel Prizes are not awarded posthumously. - M. Schwartz, L. Lederman, and J. Steinberger - Nobel Prize in Physics (1988)
The trio was awarded the Nobel Prize for their discovery of the muon neutrino at Brookhaven National Laboratory in 1962.
